A painting of a rainbow trout by Ron Jenkins of Charlo, Montana was selected as the winner of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's 2001 Trout/Salmon Stamp competition. The competition was held on May 31, 2000 at Wildwood Conference Center, Harrisburg Area Community College. A panel of seven judges selected Jenkins' depiction of a rainbow trout leaping from the water from a field of forty-eight paintings, submitted by 44 different artists. The judging was done in a two-phase scoring of the paintings without identification of the artists.
In a first for the Pennsylvania Trout/Salmon Stamp competition, the second place painting was also submitted by Ron Jenkins. Third place was awarded to a painting by Christopher Leeper of Youngstown, Ohio. Leeper was the winner of the 1997 trout/salmon stamp competition with his painting of an angler on Neshannock Creek.
