Mountain Springs LAKE
Mountain Springs Lake will be closed to public use beginning August 1, 2017 as the agency begins the process to permanently remove the dam. [more]
Located in Luzerne County, Mountain Springs Lake is a 40-acre impoundment owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and managed by the Fish and Boat Commission for public fishing and boating. Mountain Springs Lake has been drawn down due to the condition of the dam. The PFBC plans to completely drain the reservoir and proceed with plans to breach the dam.
There are no plans to rebuild the dam. Agency waterways conservation officers say the lake receives minimal use, in part because of the difficulty reaching it. The lake is accessible only by a five-mile, unpaved road through State Game Land 57. Also, agency biologists report that the lake is a poor fishery because of the acidic water.
Commonwealth Inland Waters regulations apply for all species of fish.
Boating is limited to boats powered by electric motors and un-powered boats.
To be used at the lake, boats must be registered or have a valid launch permit (permits are issued by the Commission or PA Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources).
