Commissioner
Norman Gavlick of Kingston (Luzerne County) represents the Seventh District of Pennsylvania as a member
of the Fish and Boat Commission. He was appointed to the Commission by Gov. Edward G. Rendell on June
17, 2008, and his nomination for an eight-year term was confirmed by the Pennsylvania State Senate on
June 30, 2008.
Commissioner Gavlick is the President of Gavlick Personnel Services, Inc., and the President
of Sunami Finesse Lures, Inc. He holds memberships in the North American Fishing Club; Bass Anglers
Sportsman’s
Society (BASS); National Rifle Association; Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; Oregon Hunters Association;
and the North Branch Smallmouth Alliance.
In 2005, Gavlick formed the non-profit Suskie Bassmasters (www.suskiebassmasters.org) to
raise funds for improvements to Nesbitt Park on the Susquehanna River in Wilkes-Barre, including a multi-lane
boat and canoe/kayak launch ramp and paved parking lot. Gavlick also participated in efforts to oppose a proposed
inflatable dam on the Susquehanna in Wilkes-Barre. In spring of 2008 the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers
denied the permits, and the Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority voted to not appeal the Corps
decision.
He holds a bachelor’s
degree from King’s
College, Wilkes-Barre, and a master’s degree in business from California Coast University, Santa Ana, CA.
