Q & A
Moving Fish to an Aquarium
Question
I was interested in knowing if there are any regulations that prohibit an angler from taking fish from waters in PA and using them in an aquarium environment. Some fish have to be of a legal size limit to keep, others not, but can you keep them alive and keep them legally?
Answer
If the fish are legally caught, meaning in compliance with season, size, and creel limits and licensing requirements, they may be kept in an aquarium. Your success in keeping them alive would depend on a number of factors.

Converting wild animals, including reptiles, amphibians and fish, into pets is NOT a recommended practice in most situations. Many wild fish do not adapt well to typical aquarium environments.
