| Tamarack Lake |
Located
in Crawford County,
Tamarack Lake is a 562-acre reservoir located 3 miles southeast of Meadville. The
lake is owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintained by the Fish and Boat Commission
for public fishing and boating. The reservoir is unique because there are dams at both ends of the
reservoir with a shallow area in the middle. Maximum depth in the lake is only about 13 feet.
In early spring 1999, Tamarack Lake was completely drained so that safety modifications could be made to the outlet
structures on both dams. The modifications were completed in the summer of 1999 and the reservoir was
fully refilled by the spring of 2000.
FISHING
Since the summer of 1999, large numbers of warm/coolwater fish have been stocked in Tamarack
Lake to speed the recovery of the fishery. Muskellunge and black crappie in particular have been doing
very well.
Tamarack is managed under Big Bass Regulations and is part of
the Brood Stock Lakes Program. All other species of fish are managed under Commonwealth
Inland Waters regulations.
A fishing pier is available for persons with disabilities.
BOATING
Boating is limited to boats powered by electric motors and un-powered boats. There are 7 access points (ranging
from gravel ramps to improved concrete ramps with small docks) and associated parking facilities.
Un-powered boats may be moored at the lake in accordance with Commission
property regulations. To be used at the lake, boats must be registered or
have a valid launch permit (permits are issued by the Commission or
PA Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources). |
