LAKE WALLENPAUPACK

Lake Wallenpaupack is a 5,700 acre lake located in Pike and Wayne counties that is owned and operated by Brookfield Renewable. The lake is around 13 miles in length and about 60 feet at its maximum depth. It is operated as an auxiliary electric generating facility, but it is open to the public for recreation purposes like fishing, boating, waterskiing, camping, hiking, wildlife viewing and nature study. Brookfield also operates several campgrounds, observation and overlook areas, a wildlife refuge, two natural areas and an Environmental Learning Center.

The PA Fish and Boat Commission owns and maintains a boat access area at Mangan Cove, which is located off of State Route 590 (within ½ mile of the intersection with Route 6). Boaters can launch their watercraft from this access area for free. There are also Brookfield owned boat access areas at Caffrey, Ironwood Point, Ledgedale and Wilsonville. There is a fee to launch a boat at these four Brookfield access areas; the fee is waived for campers. Boaters can also pump sewage from holding tanks at Wilsonville and Caffrey for a fee.

The lake has no horsepower limit regulations for boaters. Boaters are limited to 45 miles per hour from sunrise to sunset on weekends and holidays from the Saturday before Memorial Day to Labor Day. Boats are also limited to 25 miles per hour between sunset and sunrise.

The lake is a great waterway for fishing. Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Walleye, Pickerel, Yellow Perch, Trout, Striped Bass, Channel Catfish and a variety of panfish are popular sportfish on this waterway. Handicap accessible fishing piers are located at the PFBC’s Mangan Cove and Brookfield’s Ironwood Point Boat Launch areas.

The Commission continues to stock the lake (listed under Pike County) with fingerling Striped Bass (Pure and Hybrid), Walleye and Brown Trout.

Fish habitat structures have been placed in the lake (view PDF map) over the years as part of the Commission's Fish Habitat Improvement Program.
