BUY A FISHING LICENSE/PERMIT
Fishing fun can begin as soon as you have a fishing license and, if needed, a permit for trout fishing or fishing on Lake Erie. Getting a license is simple and as convenient as logging on or going to a licensing agent near you.
In addition to the licenses, permits are needed for commercial fishing, and some recreational fishing like fishing derbies and cast net fishing. Find most of the recreational permits online through our e-commerce platform, HuntFishPA.
PURCHASE A PA SALTWATER ANGLER REGISTRY PROGRAM (SARP) PERMIT
Anglers who target or catch
shad, striped bass, and river
herring from the Delaware
River below Trenton Falls or
in the Delaware Estuary are
required to register for free
with the PFBC online at HuntFish.PA.gov. Angler may also register, for a
fee, with the National Saltwater
Angler Registry administered by the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), or meet the
saltwater angler registration requirements of another
state. Anglers do not need to register if they meet one of
the following exceptions:
- Are under the age of 16.
- Hold a Highly Migratory Species Angling Permit.
- Fish commercially under a valid license.
- Possess a valid registration with the National
Saltwater Angler Registry.
- Registry administered by NOAA or from another
exempted state.
Pennsylvania fishing license holders may choose
to register for free with the PFBC. Go to HuntFish.PA.gov for
registration details.
Anglers may also register with the National Saltwater
Angler Registry* website at countmyfish.noaa.gov with NOAA by clicking on the National Saltwater
Angler Registry link.
*Please note that registered anglers
must still possess a valid state fishing license.
MENTORED YOUTH TROUT DAY
Share the love of fishing with the younger generation. Get their permits or voluntary license and get them on the water for Mentored Youth Trout Day.
LICENSE EXEMPTIONS
Some anglers may qualify for exemptions, discounts or free licenses and permits.
Landowners with property available for public fishing may qualify for a reduced fee license.
